Are you an energy company looking for in-house or field land services, or a landowner looking for help navigating the process of leasing or owning minerals?  Whatever your needs may be, High Plains Energy Company has the resources to get the job done right with over 35 years of land experience from a father/son team and a network of experienced Landmen all over the country.

George W. Clay, IV

George founded High Plains Energy Company (HPEC) in 1986 in Denver, Colorado as a full services oil and gas brokerage company.  After graduating from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas in 1974, he went on to attend the University of Texas in Austin where he graduated in 1979 with a BBA in Petroleum Land Management.  He began his career in the oil business immediately working for Joseph S. Rose & Company as a Landman.  He spent the next six years with Rose & CO. and then broke out on his own in 1986 with HPEC.  The price of oil was $8.00 per barrel and when people asked him what he was doing, his response was 'it can only get better from here.'.  Since then, HPEC has worked from the Appalachian Mountain Region to the West Coast and from South Texas to North Dakota to Washington State and over to the Great Lakes.

In Denver, George was active in the Denver Association of Petroleum Landmen (DAPL) serving in various capacities.  He served as President in 1991.  He started a benefit trap shoot at Watkins Gun Club in 1985 with the proceeds benefitting Make-A-Wish Foundation and other local Denver charities.  It is still an annual DAPL tradition.  He's also a member of the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) and received his Certified Professional Landman (CPL) designation in 1986.  He was active in the quarterly AAPL meetings as a Regional Director, a part of the Annual Conference Committee when the AAPL National Meeting was in Denver in 1990, and coordinated the 1st sporting clays shoot at the Houston, TX conference in 1991.

George is Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Patrick Henry College in Purcellville, VA.  Patrick Henry is a non-denominational, but distinctly Christian Classical Liberal Arts College where he previously served as the Development Officer from 2003 - 2006.  He is also a founding member of the Patrick Henry College Foundation.  He also served on the board of the Texas Home School Coalition since 1996 - the largest state organization of its kind in all 50 states.  He is also active in local, state, and national politics and attended the 1996 and 2000 National Republican Convention as a Delegate from Texas.

George married Dana in 1983 and raised 3 kids - Elizabeth, William, and Dale.  He became a pilot in 2000 and loves to hunt, fish, camp, and shoot and enjoys being outside with his family.  He is a part time farmer and rancher in Bowie, TX and attends First Presbyterian Church in Bowie, TX.

George W. (William) Clay, V

William started working with George, IV in January, 2005 on a 200,000+ acre due diligence project in Nebraska.  Now serving as Vice President of High Plains Energy, he is an integral part of all facets of the business.  He is active in the American Association of Professional Landmen (AAPL) as well as the North Texas Association of Professional Landmen (NTAPL).

Prior to his career in the oil business, William served as CFO for Premier Parking - a national parking management company based out of Nashville, TN.  During his time there, William was recognized by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as one of Nashville's Top 30 under 30, as well as by the Nashville Business Journal as a CFO of the Year finalist.  He was active serving the Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity, and served on the board of the Phoenix Club of Nashville (PCON) - a Nashville non-profit for the benefit of disadvantage youth in Nashville.

William graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Accountancy from Lipscomb University where he graduated Cum Laude.  He served his Social Club (Delta Tau) as Social Director his Junior year, and as President his Senior year.  During his time at Lipscomb, he was inducted into the Alpha Chi Honors Society, as well as Delta Mu Delta.
